Extinction

The Golden toad always resided in a relatively small area of rainforest, and so was more sensitive to external factors.

One factor is thought to be the changing of the forest climate due to global warming. The forest became hotter and dryer. This provided an ideal climate for the chytrid fungus. The chytrid fungus infects amphibians such as the Golden toad, and causes skin loss and death.
